Addis Launches 50 bln Birr Integrated Community Dev’t Project

The 50 billion birr `La Gare` integrated community development project launched in the capital Addis Ababa, on November 20/2018 in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.The launching ceremony was held at around La Gare area, where the project will be executed on 360,000 square meters of land in the center of the city, with a rail line running along its northern edge.
It was stated that, the project will have 4,000 residences, 3 hotels, office buildings and other outdoor service areas.La Gare represents an integrated community comprising residential, commercial, hospitality, retail and leisure facilities in a single, secure and exclusive setting surrounding a park.
The construction of the first phase of project will be finalized within three years. The project will take a total of seven year for completion.The construction of the project will be carried out by Eagle Hills, an Abu Dhabi-based leading private real estate developer company while the project is expected to create jobs for 25,000 people, it was indicated.
La Gare, translated from French to ‘The Station,’ was the main railway station in Addis Ababa, the terminal station of the first Addis Ababa – Djibouti train line in the Horn of Africa.Completed in 1917, the station was a central part of the capital and the main source of traffic into the city.
