Urban Informality and City Resilience Conference 2018 to convene in Addis Ababa

The City of Addis Ababa and 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) has organized  a three-day Network Exchange Conference on Urban Informality and City Resilience in Addis Ababa on December 3-5, 2018.

The convening will offer Chief Resilience Officers from fellow 100RC member cities the opportunity to share good practices and new ideas to address informal settlement vulnerability to shocks and stresses. It will also explore ways in which municipal leaders can integrate some of the aspects of informality into formal city planning and in the delivery of core services, such as housing, transportation, waste management, and livelihoods. This will make for a rich learning experience not only for Addis Ababa – a city that is intentionally embedding informality considerations into its resilience-building efforts – but for the Network at large, as many other Global South cities are currently addressing the pernicious stresses associated with informality and leveraging them to strengthen their resilience to shocks that will inevitably hit.
